The return of the royal luminaries of Australian Hip Hop to the throne is heralded by a chorus of horns, an ominous drum break, DJ DCE cuts and chants of ‘Def Wish posse.’ With armour as polished as it was 15 years ago when Def Wish Cast dropped the timeless classic: Knights Of The Underground Table, the trio excel on 13 tracks. After months of anticipation and delays, the hype-which was the closest to rivalling that of the Hilltop Hoods’ last album- has been satisfied. There is no particular highlight on The Legacy Continues as every track is up to a generic standard of the album holistically. However, noteworthy tracks include: Aus Down, Once More and 3rd Degree Burn. Aus Down is a follow up to the famous Australian Hip Hop anthem of the 90’s; A.U.S.T. The contemporary track features graffiti-esque imagery spat over strident horn stabs coupled with a rolling flute sample which paves the way for an energetic hook. The knights indeed rode decisively on Once More with Def Wish Cast asserting themselves lyrically, producing a file which certainly can’t be copied. 3rd Degree Burn is a bass-heavy tribute of sorts to producer Sereck’s weapon of choice; the Roland 808 drum machine. The track features a multitude of samples weaving in and out of the listener’s consciousness. Interestingly enough for this aggressive brand of music, not a profane word was rapped on The Legacy Continues. In years to come, this release from the pioneers of Australian Hip Hop will be seen as a milestone to which all other acts should aspire to in much the same manner that Knights Of The Underground Table was. For those under any negative illusions about the state of Australian Hip Hop: consider the bloodlines well and truly intact.

True Legends of oz hip hop.
Dope review of an incredible album.
I consider this a timeless work also. As dope now as when it was released. I certainly don’t tire of listening to it. 3rd Degree Burn was my pick right from the start too.
